Description
The Big Brothers. How they pit us against each other for their own amusement.
Originally, the line above was all that I had posted on the thoughts behind this image. Really, I was pressed for time and had not all of the words to properly describe my creation. Now that I have a moment, I'd like to revise the original commentary to more accurately represent this piece.
Here in the United States, the two-party system holds sway. I believe the Democratic party (Blue) and the Republican party (Red) are like twin brothers. These twin brothers are the biggest kids on the block. Each of them has their own group of friends. Some of those friends are friends with both brothers, some are friends with members of the opposite friends group, and some are loyal only to one brother. All of them look to the big brothers for support and protection. After all, they ARE the biggest kids in the neighborhood.
Like many brothers, they bicker and fight... sometimes bitterly. But at the end of the day, they are still brothers who look after each other. They have common interests. Of those interests, maintaining control over the neighborhood is THE top priority. If a new kid comes to town hoping to take even a little bit of control from them, The Big Brothers band together and have them removed. The brothers also know that if the kids in the neighborhood were to band together, the brothers would be outnumbered and potentially overpowered. This simply would not do.
These Big Brothers are intelligent and cunning. They know that by manipulating the people who could pose a threat, they can keep them fighting amongst each other, while at the same time supporting whatever causes The Big Brothers need them to support. Over time, The Big Brothers became so good at this manipulation it became a matter of great amusement to them. What ridiculous lies could they convince the smaller children to believe? What ridiculous acts could they manipulate them to perform? The Big Brothers soon discovered that the more they manipulated, the more the smaller kids would want their protection... and the more powerful they would become. The more their subjects struggled, the more amusing it become to The Big Brothers.
