Thank you John for creating and sharing this image of what the reality of addiction involves. Stepping into sobriety involves honesty, courage, determination and faith. Learning to go with the flow and being responsible for one's life and actions. I am thrilled to see this kind of artwork. I have been there and done that. Many years ago the Universe guided me to a way out. I never looked back and made me the person I am today. Hugs and more hugs to you my friend!!

John Alexander replied:

Thank you so much Carolyn. It means so much when you share your thoughts with me. Thank you, thank you, thank you again.

A powerful image with a powerful message…it would certainly make a meaningful anti-addiction poster . After many decades of blaming outside forces for my addiction, I came to the conclusion that I was the real problem. A doctor warned me that my liver was deteriorating, which only slowed down my excessive drinking. Then another arrest for DUI , followed by many weekends in the county jail, finally forced me to admit that I needed to quit. May 23rd 1998 was the last can of malt liquor, which I chugged down just before reporting for the last lost weekend… It is the main reason that I am still alive today.I am so grateful that I found The Strength needed to stop The Willful Hand ! I hope that this image inspires at least one more person to find the strength to save themselves

John Alexander replied:

Thank you so much for sharing Douglas. Something tells me you and I could share some stories.

The choice is there and with a powerful message you share in this striking and dramatic work. Lighting and composition being the role and the heart and soul work with the intrigue and intense emotions in this newest work John. Excellent my friend. F/L.

John Alexander replied:

Artist's Description

I could blame genetics. I could blame the terrible hand I was dealt from the word go. I could blame adversity, life, or the entire world at large. During the years I spent soul searching, I came to one cold, hard truth... it was ALWAYS my choice to drink. Whether or not I understood the ramifications of that choice, it is, was, and always will be irrelevant. It was ALWAYS my own willful hand reaching out for another drink.

For many long years I simply did not care. When that willful hand reached out for another drink, it was a welcome act. Over time, I knew that I would need to find strength to stop that willful hand. At times, it became terribly clear that I simply didn't have the strength to put a stop to it, even though it was killing me. During such times, I felt like I needed to do Whatever it takes To Be Free.

Thankfully, many years ago I was able to find the strength needed to stop that willful hand (without the need of the pictured cleaver). I share such difficult...
